Starting with the most widely-known, streaming royalties are generated when someone streams your song on a service like Spotify or Apple Music, but they don't pay much. 1000 Spotify streams will earn you about 4USD and other services aren't much better.

Every time your song is performed publicly (at a concert or on the radio for example) you earn performance royalties.
They're collected by PROs (Performance Rights Organizations) like ASCAP, BMI, or PRS, depending on your country.
