Yes, attempting to drive a wedge between outer suburbians/country and city folk wouldn't have aided their cause imo. I think most Australians would prefer a party that unites rather than divides. But, as mentioned, how the fuck did they expect to win with half-baked, empty policies?
The Coaition thought culture war hate campaigns would capture working class voters, so there'd be no need for other policies.
That largely worked in the U.S.
I agree we're overall better educated as a nation.
And our less educated apparently hang out together within One Nation, Liberal Party, and National Party branches, where they convince themselves that stoking fear and division will be enough to win them power. 🫠

And while there’s bits of racism
Racism raised it head in a drummed up sea of fear when equity was at stake (the voice)
We don’t hate like USA, we have a much healthier society
We have looked after eachother much better Not so individualistic UK learned from USA imho
