If no one else replies, it's because skiing in jeans is something only an idiot would do. The fabric gets wet and stiff instantly and then you get cold and miserable:)
I have to confess - did it in Squaw Valley when I didn’t have the right equipment. In my defense, it was a 50 degree Spring Skiing day and it was a lot of fun!
Actually skiing in jeans - your legs will be soaked the first time you fall down or sit down in snow. So you'll be stuck with double-leg soakers, which then freeze to your legs. Miserable and dumb
No, it was 40 in my day.
Thank God that I quit 43 years ago.
And I religiously waterproof my ski pants now.
Yes, we did a ton of dumb stuff then because we thought it was cool & only (insert epithet of choice) did otherwise.
Some of us outgrew it.
But we sure made fun of Westerners, we were jealous.
If you weren't shaking with cold for the last run in the Whites & then the long ride back to Mass, then you weren't trying hard enough. My 1st down coat was a revelation to me. I got to the NW & called their ice packed powder. Had my tips bolted back together after they delammed.
What me worry?
Oh, I understand your question now. Skiing in jeans is not “offensive”. Among those who ski at expensive resorts (VT, CO, etc.), it’s considered “amateurish” and low class. Similar to how people who live in Manhattan refer to people from the other boroughs as “bridge and tunnel”.
Also, as others have pointed out here, campers, backpackers, and winter sports enthusiasts know that cotton jeans and other cotton clothes can absorb moisture, freeze, and contribute to hypothermia. Cotton isn’t an ideal winter fabric.
I was confused too, because my husband used to take day trips up to Steven's Pass, and if it was impromptu enough, he would ski in his jeans. I thought it sounded dumb and he replied "If you don't fall, you don't get wet and cold." Which made sense for him.
