a similar version of this concept was used IRL as a 1692 lycanthropy trial defense by Thiess of Kaltenbrun. he tl;dr admitted to being a werewolf, but claimed that he and others were "hounds of god" and would travel to hell and kill demons. they just exiled him, instead of executing him.
