The script for that movie was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
Dan(a Canadian BTW) likely knew all about Trump from his SNL days back in the 1970s.
Caligula’s bad reputation was a hit job by later historians who were writing to please the current Caesars.
Caligula was loved by the people, and the equestrian class despised him for it. The story about him making his horse a Senator was a big middle finger to the senate, not a sign he was crazy.
This is my fav thing I've read today. Thanks for sharing! A good little laugh at the absurdity warms the heart. Maybe we should ask @danaykroyd.bsky.social what we should do. Maybe we do need a Ghostbuster to get rid of these idiots 👻 Dan, any suggestions?

I was reading this part out loud to my dog and I sensed it coming and couldn't keep a straight face. earlier Peter implies that he rose to fame and fortune through magic!
It's by Ed Naha! It's actually very fun, I think it's better than the first movie novelization (sorry to that author!) although there are quite a few typos 😂
I have to re-watch it! I got fixated on the whole GB franchise after seeing the one from 2016, and after I just saw the newest ones the fixation is back! 😂 They're all so good and fun!
It took me years to finally watch Ghostbusters II again, because it's so scary. Last year, to prepare for "Frozen Empire", I watched all films again and couldn't skip that one. Loved it even more than ever!
Ironically, the film was designed to be less scary than the first one so it matched the tone and the style of the The Real Ghostbusters cartoon and to make it more kid friendly. But I think that it actually made the film much scarier than they intended.
@jusdberube.bsky.social was just telling me that's why Janine has reddish hair in that movie! idk why but I thought the movie came before the cartoon (I only saw the cartoon as a kid, not the movies!)
back in 2021 @somemorenews.bsky.social did a video about how common the "Trump is a cartoonish villain to be parodied in movies" thing was.
I think this is the right video? https://youtu.be/Yj-wc9qugGY?si=ju8f2E7enW7cB6mB
The bad future version of Biff in Back to the Future Part II (1989) was based off Trump. There were some Superman comics in the '80s with depictions of Lex Luthor intentionally made similar to Trump as well. A lot of people knew of him as a skeevy businessman and a good model for villains and such.
it's actually pretty good!! the novelization of the first one was just kinda basic but this one is fun and has a lot of new content (maybe cut scenes?)
that's why I love the extended editions of the movies, when they are available! and the 2016 movie's novelization added so much, I actually genuinely love that book! 😂
Apparently one of the original sequel ideas was for the team to be sucked into a hell dimension version of New York which was ruled by a demon based on Trump. Yes.
I’ve literally been aware of what a shady character Trump was since 1994. It’s left me immune to the “Reality TV” and Faux News hype of him as a “successful” businessman. Once you know, you KNOW. He’s nothing more than a savvy conman and complete sociopath.
And he’s done so much worse than back then. I’m convinced that people would have rallied around this asshole even without the Apprentice. I’m pretty sure Russia was already grooming him in the late 80’s-early 90’s.
I remember reading a Newsweek article about him back in the early 90s that talked about how he was a little fish in the real estate business who liked to pretend he was far more wealthy than he was. And then The Apprentice solidified that he was playing pretend.
I wish there was a fast and easy way to track down the exact Dilbert strip where there's a drawing of him. It's really funny in retrospect because Scott Adams lost his whole fucking mind at a certain point and has now written a book that elevates him to a religious figure....
I have a distinct memory of how pre-MAGA Scott Adams drew him. He looks like an arrogant guppy. It's one of those caricatures that actually benefits from being drawn in a style that's technically too simplistic for caricatures of real people.
It used to be known. 2 bad guys from the original Mario Bros movie were based on trump; the main bad guy in Robocop based on trump; Sesame Street had Donald Grump. Many times, Trump was the bad guy. Somehow, people forgot that.
That's from the first movie! also in the novelization of that one, he said "Dogs and cats living together in sin" 😂 I dunno if that's from a different take, or what

Maybe you're young but Trump's been a joke since the early 80s.
It’s super effective.
Us Canucks can still buy his wine! Yaay!

I'm always going to remember this sentence.
"It's in the script"
"Well then let's take it out. Alright?"
