I tried The Colour of Magic as a student in the 1980s and Guards Guards on the recommendation of an old friend I met at a wedding in the late 1990s. That's a long time ago!

Ah Sir TP himself used to say "don't read Colour of magic first, I got much better at writing" (paraphrasing)
Lots of folks have trouble with CoM as their first disc book:)
