I remember a friend of mine kept calling her partner her partner and my initial reaction was "wow that's very new-age of you" and then after hearing it a few more times it hit me "OOOOOOOHHH IT'S BECAUSE THEY'RE NONBINARY"

Even if I'm non-binary I'd rather have a significant other refer to me by a gendered term of their choosing, literally anything that doesn't make it sound like we're just working on a project in school together

ngl I just used to say partner specifically just to troll and have people guess my sexuality (Het/Ace) or to make a point it shouldn't matter

HOWEVER, I've just started dating.
My mindset has changed to where I can understand where you. I would prefer to plainly & directly, acknowledge my partner 😉

Ocean understands and abides by it, they tried calling me their partner around people to whom my gender identity wasn't made clear yet, and I told them I'd rather just be misgendered and called their husband than be called partner
