I find the RSA short on what motivates people a good starting point for thinking about how to manage people https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc It highlights how complex people's behaviour & motivation is & how difficult it is to "manage" outcomes.
Teaching is complex & needs to be treated as such.

Awful - glad I am not in teaching any more as the pressure to achieve the impossible will just rise. At least the old system was collective - imagine being the member of staff/SLT responsible for one area deemed poor (whatever they try to call it)!

Yes, by the school (if you believe Ofsted has any credibility). But experience in schools shows that they are very quick to assign blame to individuals - you might have noticed there's a huge retention and recruitment crisis.

Generally, high or low performing areas within schools are down to individuals (although not necessarily the individuals with direct responsibility at the time of the inspection).

How root causes are identified and tackled is then critical. Fully agree that blame culture will not work.

Problem is that in many schools the cult of perfection (we must be outstanding) leads to blame. I was lucky to work in a couple of schools where this didn't happen but experienced two where it did.

28 y/o Secondary Science Teacher here - Glad to see some thought has gone into changing the existing OFSTED system. However, it doesn't scream revolutionary change either.

My concern is how we retain high-quality staff. This doesn't seem bold enough to do so.
