Just throwing this out there but the Habs need a RD that can play decent minutes for a year or two while the teams breaks in Mailloux and Reinbacher and Jeff Gorton did trade for Trouba when he was Rangers GM.

The odds of that happening are incredibly small but my pov is that while i don't think he is very good, he is adequate to take up minutes for a while. As for the off-ice stuff, again, Jeff Gorton would know him very well.
No point acquiring him then. they have other players they can move already in the lineup.
He would be a good acquistion for the Habs because the cost would be minimul and he would fill a huge hole at RD next season. Habs can't start the season with Barron and Mailloux at RD.
Are Drury and Gorton on speaking terms? Seems like the Rangers are loathe to deal with the Canadiens. Add to that, Trouba seems to have some baggage that the #Habs don't need.
Not sure about the baggage but you make an excellent point about Drury and Gorton not speaking.
At the end of the day, i just think it's interesting because Habs picking him up on waivers or for a very small cost would suit both teams. Pretty sure it will not happen.
When all is said & done, I think they’ll need a young vet 1st or 2nd pair RD.
Reinbacher would be the other if health permits, Mailloux a 3rd pair if that.. I have no faith he’ll be able to play defensively in NHL.
I agree with that but for development reasons, i hate throwing young Dmen in situations where they are in over their heads. IMO, Habs need to spread out the addition of Reinbacher and Mailloux in the lineup over a 1 to 2 year period. It becomes easier to shelter them and control their minutes.
That's why it's so important in my opinion that Montreal acquire a minute munching RD and at least, a solid depth RD. So they can slowly bring Mailloux into the lineup while sheltering him if need be.
Thats the thing: the Habs need him or someone else to play RD. Next season, they have Barron who is struggling to play in the NHL and Mailloux, who may not be ready defensively but if he is, will need to be play sheltered minutes.
I think at the end of the day if they’re gonna move Savard at deadline having Troub’s here wouldn’t hurt…but having both gives you 3 vet D with 3 young guys wouldn’t hurt trying to get into “the mix”

I’m not convinced he would be much help on the ice, or in the room.
I’m probably biased because he’s a predatory head hunter and I hate those types of players
Maybe keep him and flip him at the deadline? 🤷♂️
Monahan deal has ruined me. I see the possibility for double dipping on every trade now 😂

Also depends what Habs plan to do with their LD overload. If they plan to keep Matheson long term & play him on the right.. no need.
Btw, there is not way if am touching Trouba if NYR don’t keep 50%. That’s not a discussion.
