Maybe they didn't experience the DA era and that's why they're not used to it? I feel like especially those of us who were very young (I was like 13 when I joined DA) became aware of those things pretty quickly so now we're used to filtering and curating our spaces and searches.

Kind of like how when casual fans started joining fandoms during lockdown and were very confused about people shipping character that had never met and stuff like that, for example. Though of course that's not even remotely on the same level of weirdness haha

That's 100% what it is. It's why I'm always surprised when I see people in their older 20s/30s making a big fuss out of it. Like, did they somehow go 20 years without knowing this stuff exists online?? lmfao

It's definitely possible! I remember back when I was a teen not a lot of classmates were as online as I was. They were on a Spanish social media platform that was kind of like Facebook/Fotolog but just for younger people, but that was about it. They didn't know what fandom was at all. 😆

i think it's especially tiring because in this day and age it's SO easy to curate your experience. you can block/mute tags and people, you can filter NSFW content, you can read every tag on an AO3 fic, etc. but people don't do that and instead harass other people for just having fun

Sooo tired of seeing people hate on ships because of reasons like "it weirds me out" or "it's toxic af" or "theyre like siblings". In this house we fight like men. In this house we look each other in the eye and argue over why shadow x rouge is better than knuckles x rouge without dumb excuses.
