Seeing a lot this federal election of people trying to scare voters off voting for independents by saying 'but who are they preferencing?' Each individual voter for a candidate decides where their preferences go, not the candidate.

I am concerned about their ‘how to vote’ cards. Most voters just follow the card of the candidate they want to vote for. I’d like the Indys to state either that their cards won’t have ranking of other candidates, or be up front about what they will do. In my electorate Sturt, I’m watching Lab & Ind
I've always thought 'How to vote' cards were grossly over-rated. I suspect once-upon-a-time they may have had some significant influence, but I'm sure that was a VERY long time ago.
Before 2016, “preference deals” were a thing in the Senate. If you voted above the line, you could only write a “1”, and that party decided how your preferences flowed. 1/2
Since 2016, you can write as many numbers above the line as you like, and preferences only flow how you, the voter, have explicitly numbered them on the ballot paper. 2/2
(Also where the preferences of voters for an independent "go" is irrelevant if that independent makes the final two, because in that case the preferences actually are not going anywhere.)
It worked on me. I’ve voted all over the place but yeh nah she’s straight Labor this time. Forget everything else way too risky. Would I like a multi party thing nah nah people are either right or left and that’s it
This is true - but even so - I want to know who or how my local Independent candidate will consider placing their support in the event of a hung parliament…but 🦗🦗🦗🦗
