I think most of us buy local when it’s possible, but my local Walmart does help in our community. They have donated a few hundred in merch to 2 different house fire people that I know of and they’ve also donated to community based auctions. They also support kids sports teams. My 2 cents
This is exactly how we change the narrative from Big Box stores to supporting our home communities. Let’s cut out the CEOs and make our neighborhoods our first priority.
Also local business prices necessarily include costs of transporting the product to your locality. This makes their price appear higher than the Amazon price which does not include this part of the cost. People still pay these costs through Prime but often don't factor that into the cost comparison.
And, of course, the Amazon Prime system deliberately drives prime members away from local business. Because prime members have already prepaid Amazon transportation costs through a monthly prime subscription they have a strong financial incentive to choose Amazon for as many purchases as possible.
