I always thought that Carter was a great president. Further that Reagan was terrible. His mantra was cut taxes. Sure, that spiked the stock market. No brilliance there. Put us in debt. Ended FCC regulations. Broke unions. hidden wars, etc,.

Carter was a great president, but Ronnie the Racist (and still-mad Southern Democrats) couldn't abide him: he made them look bad. They painted him as 'weak' for living his faith, a faith they also claim for themselves, but use as a weapon.

Never forget: Reagan committed treason to defeat Carter.

The south was Democratic Party until Lyndon B Johnson. It's all repub now. Would agree that they continue the myth that somehow Reagan was a great president. But then, they think Trump is too.

They were nominally Democrats because they hated Lincoln so much, they wouldn't join the Republicans. They left after the passage of the Civil Rights Act, in which LBJ was famously told if he signed it into law, he would 'lose the South for a generation.' Been a bit longer than that.

The best part is a room full of people ironed out every inch of that event down to specific seating and camera placements. A room full of people thought that out and knew in advance that the pillar would block him.
