More depressingly, Northwestern cancels Assassins because John Wilkes Booth sings beautifully about the heroism of the South in the Civil War and almost sways you, then uses a foul slur to remind everyone why he really shot Lincoln. It's a truly wonderful song.

I'm so glad! That song was my entry into Sondheim. I have never grown tired of it. The show is interesting as hell: a pastiche of American song styles where each of the presidential assassins and would be assassins sing about why they did what they did.
