I think we need to keep having that faith. To some extent we are what we believe ourselves to be. We do have an over-abundance of numpties in this country though 😞 More outdoor ed would be a start.

Things we installed in my last job generally lasted only a few days or weeks before they were vandalised, scratched or burned, or in the more extreme cases ripped out and dumped in a bog.

Must be so demoralising to see that day in day out 😔 Clearly a mindset problem that goes well beyond a lack of respect for the outdoors but I do think more outdoor/environmental education at a young age could improve people's attitude to natural world AND wider society.

Yep it’s doable and would take a generation ….but I don’t think our society, collectively, assigns much value to more formal outdoor time, even though most of us do it for our own sanity.

While we were there a family turned up, with their own bag of birch logs, and proceeded to have a fire in the hanging fire pit, with hot coffee. Insanely nice place to spend an hour or so. And it was spotless and clean, with no sign of vandalism or graffiti.
