Imagine being brainwashed to hate millions of people you don’t even know so much that you’d give the country over to a literal traitor. To believe cries of communism and open borders year after year and not know you’re a mark. I can’t imagine.

People are hurting and they will grab onto anything that explains that pain. If the nearest or most available thing on offer is “those people are causing your pain” many will grab onto that explanation.
The challenge is to come in fast, hard, and with credibility, with an explanation that does not blame the “other” but rather puts the blame where it belongs.
I ponder just that almost every day. I cant fathom it. I remember back when I first becameß political. Didn't know if I was red or blue. So, I watched Fox News to see.
HOLY FUCK! That shit was CRAZY! I'm not bragging or kidding. 10 minutes was all it took to know I wasn't THAT.
Lately I've been wondering what purpose humans serve on this planet. We are the most dangerous and destructive species ever to exist, and so many are motivated by hatred, greed, and the lust for power. Honestly, I think we're a failed experiment.
Even worse: I have discovered, in working with parents, that many believe it is their JOB to hurt their children to “toughen them up” and “teach them how the world is.” Not to be their child’s safe place or protector or refuge. It’s cruelty all the way down with some folks.
My opinion: Some amount of discipline is required when raising your children, because they just have to learn that their doing can have negative consequences for hem.
But pushing them through hell to turn them into broken human beings on purpose, not good at all. Neither is the total opposite.
Guiding children, teaching them, helping them to become mature and responsible adults does not *ever* have to involve causing physical or emotional pain or exhibiting cruelty though. It absolutely can be done while also being rooted in kindness and respect for their human dignity.
Not talking about physical or emotional pain here, just giving them some clear borders and some rules. Because without it, people tend to get fuck ups too.
And sometimes there just have to be things like not watching TV because you did this or that. But always with an explanation.
That’s different! I personally believe in communication and natural consequences— but those kinds of imposed consequences are well within the bounds of reasonable.
I’m talking about parents who hit, humiliate, break or get rid of cherished belongings, make kids go hungry — that sort of thing.
I am the daughter of a WWII veteran. This has been drilled into me. I have traveled in Europe. The occupation and destruction by Hitler is still fresh in their minds. The Trump family has no military history and he isn’t the least bit curious.

I don't get it.
It didn’t take a whole lot.
