I don’t mean to be an alarmist but I’m really scared about bird flu. We’re in an extremely high Flu A season and counties are not subtyping everyone who has a positive Flu A test. I’m genuinely concerned that people are walking around with bird flu.

I've been wondering about this myself. Add in how COVID can make one more vulnerable to other infections and it's all a rather spectacular clusterfuck that isn't being properly monitored (though bad flu seasons did happen prior to this too).

I’ve been wondering the same thing. most people don’t even know there are rapids for flu A & B widely available now so they def don’t know anything beyond that. even I don’t know how/where to send for subtyping!

Right now only certain hospitals and clinics are subtyping which is dependent on lab availability as well as case severity and if there’s been any risk of animal to human transmission from flocks, cattle, animals or pets, and raw milk… which is not comforting to me

I play a game where you’re a plague trying to kill the world before the scientists stop you (played for years before Covid) I’ve found birds and water sources to be the best instruments to spread disease.
