A lot of ppl have suggested setting up WSL, but I don't think installing Ubuntu from USB is harder.
But there are some programs that are not on Linux, for instance some design programs, Affinity etc. and getting them to run is not easy

Use Docker?
1. Install Docker for Windows.
2. docker pull ubuntu:latest
3. docker run -it ubuntu:latest /bin/bash
i have tried the following with very good results - get a 2011 or 2012 intel mac mini ( you can get one for $50 or less ) and install linux mint.
U want a linux vm on windows? Have u considered linux to be the main os and running windows vm in it? Theres a certain guy that does that. I cant get into detail, cuz hes a bigger youtuber than me and im not paid to advertise him

Put Ubuntu on an USB and boot it.
It guides you through the steps.
Unless your disk is really full, there isn't really anything speaking against that
