The heatpump is most efficient running 24/7 so it's not possible to avoid the very high prices... I can't shift enough use to the cheap times to balance it. I suspect it only works if you have a battery.

Hello thank you for getting back to me 🙂 For the heatpump to be most efficient it had to run 24hrs so I can't avoid the Cosy expensive period. I can load shift other things but not enough to compensate. Go is much better over 24 hours.

How thermally insulated is your house?

We switch the heat pump off for the three hour period between 4-7 and the house doesn’t lose a huge amount of heat (0.4C) and efficiency remains high!

You may find cosy works well if you set the ASHP to switch off the peak.

Compare that to our old oversized system which had a buffer tank and you can see the difference.

It’s crazy how poorly the old system was running due to the mistakes our original installer made

With no EV and no ASHP, the best I can get is Flux, but my battery is too small to last the day on that. Cosy would be best for me, but no chance without a heatpump.

I was originally on Go, because I transferred from Bulb where you didn't need an EV for their EV tariff.

Just FYI, you can switch to Cosy without an ASHP. They don't ask any questions, and the switch is immediate. They say they *might* ask at some point, but from what I've heard from multiple sources they just don't bother.

I've heard they are about to start cracking down on that, so I've put in for a switch to Flux. Now that's waiting at "We need to book your smart meter exchange next." - which they don't because I already have a SMETS2 meter.

Charge your battery in the Flux period and only discharge it from 4pm, even that's cheaper than Agile at the minute.

I’ve bitten the bullet and ditched with still 3 days to go on my 52p standing charge. At these rates that 10p is gobbled up pretty quickly so it’s onto fixed for a while at least (although Octopus did try to convince me that the cap is going to come down in April …)

I think @octopus.energy wants us all off the service. I looked at my options in the app today.
A fixed rate plan with a unit price I can not afford or a flexible plan with a unit price I can not afford.

I am just going to have to wait it out.
Tomorrow and Friday, my days off are going to be bad

Sod all difference between the two although Octopus are pushing the flexible rate because they seem to think the cap is coming down in April. I’ve just plumped for fixed in the hope they’ll come up with a low standing charge tariff but Greg seems to have gone a bit quiet on that @gjuk.bsky.social

Most of my electric use is split
1300 - 1600 and 0100 - 0600
Cosy would cost me a lot more if I read it right
I'm trying to hold my nerves as night rate is still better. Can't afford standard.

I don’t use a lot but it’s pretty much evenly spread throughout the day - anything I’ve been saving overnight has been more than cancelled out by the horrific daytime prices.

Octopus messed up my switch so I’m on Agile til 15th rather than having swapped as of today. They have given me a nice little customer gesture which more than makes up for it though. I’m sure prices will drop but can always switch back again

I agree with everyone that Agile is now just too expensive (thank you for the Octoprice recommendation, by the way). If I change to Cosy, do I have to stay on it for a period of time? Or can I change back to Agile in a few weeks/month when the sun will be charging the battery and prices might lower?

I phoned them - you can do it through the app or online (unless you’re just trying to change electric). I got a 16 month fixed rate at 64p standing charge and around 25p per KWH - it’s not brilliant but will do for the time being. Pretty much the same as flexible but ties in the SC

I'm not defending Octopus but they haven't changed anything with Agile, it's the price of gas & the gas generators to blame which is hugely annoying & frustrating.

I switched to Flux a couple of days ago, no solar production to talk of to save the day (for me) & with Agile prices higher than other options it makes no sense trying to wait for things to get better, you might as well leave & just go back on it when things improve.
