When I was a kid I had a lava lamp and my cat Ding Dong loved sleeping next to it. She would basically do this exact same thing. lol.

We don't discount the possibility and also it's many, MANY years old, so rather than trust the auto-turnoff timer circuit, we unplug when unattended
