I saw the latest 2 posts on FB and then saw her post about them not being there. Just checked and they are now back to 3/26??????
Is FB doing that? How do we get them to stop?????
The school board I sit on (WI) is running on a skeleton crew that is barely enough to function because we cannot get anyone to even THINK about taking an open seat. It's not for lack of trying. One meeting a month is too much commitment for some people.
I didn't intend to malign WI -- just noting the raw numbers on the map. And I'll point out more specifically -- IL is over HALF the races being voted on today across the country.
That's because IL has more elected bodies than any other state. And we're voting for strictly local races today!
IL might have more elected bodies, but I downloaded the list from that website, and none seem extra. In addition to the usual council members and such, there are 151 mayor seats and 330 town/village president seats open. IL is not small in either size or population. https://worldpopulationreview.com/states
The ballot I voted on this morning has half the positions being voted on running unopposed. Some of these candidates have been in their seat for multiple elections because no one will even pretend to think about running against them.
Train people for resilience from childhood. Someone mentioned politics being dangerous, which means they're not resilient to personal attacks, either verbal or physical. Unpaid elected officials (school boards, etc.) need a stipend and automatic time off from their other jobs for their duties.
Make a point of community pride, whether you've lived there one day or one lifetime. People don't feel committed when they think they're going to bounce in six months for a better job opportunity somewhere else. Teach communities not to shun and exclude "outsiders" just because they're different.

I deleted my apps on inauguration day. Keep meaning to go check on my friends but it’s so hard to get myself to do it
Surely there's some fat in there somewhere.
(Wisconsin would seem to have a bit of bloat as well.)
