Numbers aren't so important. The article puts a lot on "seconds" which... you might pass out, but you're not falling asleep if you focus on too much
Fill your lungs slowly, hold your breath for about as long as that took, maybe a little longer, then slowly but forcefully exhale. Repeat. Profit.

The only time it doesn't work for me is if I'm sick. Even at my most stressed it at least gets me to sleep for a few hours before I wake up again.
