Really strange watching the American government become hostile to Canada, western Europe, and Mexico in order to cozy up to the dictatorships of eastern Europe.

Do Americans even know this is happening? Do they have any idea what this means for their lives?

Considering most can't find these places on a map, including the US itself, none of it is surprising. They don't know what the government is or how it works. They don't understand why these alliances matter.

Even accounting for brainwashing, didn't they learn *anything* in elementary school?

I think some of us Americans do, to some extent, but I think we are distracted by the fact that Donald Trump keeps turning off various government agencies. This comes hot on the heels after he tried to unilaterally cancel almost the entire national budget.
