From a research perspective the assessment of the impact from this initiative is going to be fascinating to see:

I hope you have great success.
What a brilliant, human-centred and measured response to saving lives. No lip-service but actual, concrete solutions. I truly pray many, many lives will be saved. Think of the ripples that radiate outwards from saving just one life...bravo ❤️🌍🔥 #bluesky #socialmedia
All official bodies in Scotland from the Scottish Government and parliament to the Scottish NHS and drug prevention groups have been supportive.
Those that stopped it's establishment should be ashamed.
As a former tobacco addict, I understand (in a very small way) the challenges addiction creates. Anything that helps should be available.
It brings illegal drug addiction into the health and social sphere with a great deal of support available.
Re. tobacco. I'm similar. I I stopped smoking only six weeks ago after a very long time of self-polluting my own lungs and paying a fortune in tax for the privilege.
Would you rather step over one in a public court yard ?
Et je ne répondrai pas à la seconde n'ayant pas point de comparaison. 😜
So it might be a big city/tourist/Stag Weekend thing.
It's complicated.
Of course, having legal softer drugs means they get tax revenue on them

Whether cannabis use progresses to harder drugs is still being debated
If you go to Amsterdam you will see drug dealers crowded around Coffee Shop doorways trying to up-sell
But
Because it was on specific premises with medical assurance & supervision deaths from overdose and needle-related diseases fell.
Theft crime rates fell in Rotterdam, improving the lives of everyone
It took money out of drug dealer pockets
So iirc the org issued the drugs 'free' as healthcare support, & provided counselling and programmes to help people get clean.
Done in the vaults of a church, but I'm not sure how much ⛪️ involvement there was
Of course, it will only be effective as part of a comprehensive public health program.
