I've been covering this industry for 10 years professionally, and I can safely say Nintendo has never once tried to build a game off the back of a meme (nor really included memes in their games as major features). Badly using a meme to promote your game on social media is very different

I'm sure this game would be more successful if they just made a normal platform fighter and sold it for full price, with all characters, and with polished gameplay (Because it's not as far as I'm concerned). But I guess making a game a service always brings more money to the table.
