I think that too many people minimize chronic physical pain and do not understand how debilitating it is. It impacts your mental health and every aspect of your life.

But I haven’t had to deal with my advisor in years (thankfully). I didn’t even ask her to be a reference bc I didn’t trust her.
There is no getting used to random cattle prods to your face or tooth aches where you don't have teeth.
Instead of regulating better, they have instead basically shut pain meds down completely. You have to jump through 20k hoops to maybe hopefully get something to help.
