If a virus is airborne, and is coughed out of someone's mouth, lands on a surface, like a doorknob, a person's hand opens that door, then they rub their hands over their tired eyes, their mouth, and blow their nose, they can move the virus particles to their mucous membranes. They can become sick.

If there is a sufficient concentration of the virus in the air, sure, the people may become ill. But that doesn't happen instantaneously. If a relatively clean environment has one person enter who is gravely ill, and a not yet sick person enters that same room a few seconds later, touching that

I feel like the kids had to have been faking it at that age. Probably started as a joke, then turned into a scam for extra presents or whatever. Kids know we give them treats when we feel guilty.

I didn't grow up with Santa, but I think I honestly believed in the tooth fairy until around that age simply because I didn't think my mom could take my tooth and leave money without waking me up, so there had to be a supernatural explanation lol.
