I have 2 friends supporting parents with that diagnosis, one friend who's father died after having accelerated dementia after covid, and 6 friends supporting parents with dementia (*no covid diagnosis) but those are huge numbers!!
It’s a slow-motion erasure.
A vanishing act.
Piece by piece, the person you love slips away.
Now imagine that future being mass-produced—and ignored.
That we can just keep catching it, over and over.
But repeat COVID infections aren’t just risky for your lungs or heart.
They’re dangerous for your brain.
They may be accelerating cognitive decline.
Alzheimer’s
Dementia
Brain inflammation
Memory loss
Cognitive impairment
Brain atrophy
But that risk increases with each reinfection.
It stacks.
It builds.
It doesn’t go away.
Every reinfection is another hit to your brain.
It’s not just “getting sick for a few days.”
It’s possibly turning the clock forward on brain aging.
By years. Or decades
Even after “mild” infections.
Loss of gray matter.
Damage in areas linked to memory, emotion, and decision-making.
These are the kinds of changes seen in early Alzheimer’s.
