Basing your hot take on 70s-90s Cyke is ignoring the evolution of the character.70s - early 90s Cyke was a Boy Scout. Not the ruthless tactician militant revolutionary we have now. After the Onslaught saga and the death of Cable the idealist died and we got the Cyke now, anti establishment.

Cyclops is about that life. The perfect mix of Magento and Professor x. Child soldier that grew into a leader fighting for his people. X-men 97 provides the closest Cyke depiction to the comics. How can you not like Cyke. There was almost a decade + of “Cyke was right in the comics”

Lol, I admit I was kinda trolling. I only read Claremont's run, where Storm & Wolvie were introduced, up till about the early 90s. If you know anything about that time (and in my defense, this is the material that's most used for TV and movie adaptations) Scott is such an insufferable boy scout. 😆

That was to make him palatable. But idealism can only take you so far. That’s the purpose of his character arc around that time when looking back. If you want to see how Cyke is now read the McKay run that is currently happening now.

So you're talking about mostly when Scott was young and not dissalusioned. Scott and Charles relationship has been shakey to toxic in the past 30 years. Joe Quesada had a mandate to create a massive rift between Scott and Charles around 2000 and it's easily the most defining turning point for him.

Also you are linking a page in the 90s referring something in the first 20 chapters of xmen and the other is just directly that so saying he was a loyal soldier all the way into the 90s is a stretch considering he quit the xmen in that time. You should read new genesis
