There is a puna on Mauao very lose to the start of the base track (clockwise). You can stand on the track & watch birds drinking & bathing in a little pooling area (maybe manmade). I step off the track to get closer. Within a 5 mins I saw piwakawaka, bullfinch, tui, starling, tauhou, AND blackbirds.
