It's okay, I'm at whatever moment it is when the realization of how much we're paying for no actual product that we previously supposedly had to pay so much for BECAUSE of the physical products necessary and why isn't $2k now worth an entire supercomputer with 10000000 TB in various storage forms🙃🙃🙃
I recently upgraded a few of my machines to NVMe, (2 and 4TB), and still cannot get over the size (small) capacity (larger than I could even conceive even 20 years ago) and cost (low per TB).
i would not cut it in the cyberpunk future. you hand me a thing the shape of a saltine and tell me it has multiple terabytes of storage in it i would not be able to resist the urge to snap it in half
Some of them don't last long. Had one die. They said send it and they'll replace it. Sure, I'm gonna send you my entire hard drive content with all my personal info and passwords, so some under paid employee can own me? Smashed it and trashed it. Backup drives are now NOT solid state
Backup drives are very much solid state! All the data (hehe) from infra says they’re more reliable.
But can never rely on just a single drive so it’s best to have either a simple two-disk mirrored raid at home or even better a secondary offsite backup (Tresorit or whatever else isn’t Dropbox).
this change comes from me realizing it makes a lot more sense for me to just have a large external drive than to continue paying a dropbox sub ad infinitum.

Storage meets self defense.

(I also have large drives, but I pay $70/year for Backblaze to back it all up)
