I think I started to build the ladder for myself through harsh realisation and being responsive rather than having a corpus of cognitive science knowledge to draw on though! #edchatie

I was fully immersed in discovery learning. It was my philosophy. I knew that some things needed to be taught explicitly (eg. tables) and gradually (v.slowly) I came to realise its importance in every subject. Discovery can’t happen without foundational knowledge. #EdChatIE

As somebody who has done a deep dive on play *and* cog science, how do you feel about the former, Dee? I can't help but feel that there are somewhat competing philosophies between cog sci principles and play theorists (at least some of the time)... #edchatie

I found it a difficult territory to traverse when writing on the topic in the last year or two. I think there is plenty of room in the playground for sure, but there are also risks of collisions, accidents, and misunderstandings!

1/2 By the time they get to me, Montessori is long forgotten. I do very guided discovery. Probably not liked in an inspection but have all the #cogscisci evidence to back me up. #edchatie
