I’m seeing a lot of confusion about the Equal Rights Amendment online.
I've been working on the ERA for 13 years & literally wrote a book about it.
So, let me help answer some questions.
1) Yes, it really is a real amendment & fully part of the U.S. Constitution. Full stop.

Never too late.
Why is governance so unnecessarily complicated? I always feel like I'm taking a test without lectures or notes.
So does “We the people” and “Protecting individual freedoms”
As stated in the Preamble, include women?
After passing both houses of Congress easily, in January 2020..Virginia became the 38th state to ratify it.
I wanted this to happen, but what will it actually do?
Since those haven't stopped anti-abortion state laws, I fear that neither would a federal ERA.
The most important thing it will do right away is spark a bunch of lawsuits.

To those who have become accustomed to unearned privilege, equality feels like a punishment.
Will it work? Who knows. But it's there. In the constitution. Clearly spelled out.
It's a tool in the coming struggle.
Black women have worked for decades to keep us free.
But Christo-fascism is as in as paisley and plaid in the 80s. Those white women can't think outside what hubby tells them and as long as they can clutch their crucifix and pearls, they’ll vote for a fiend.
This isn’t it.
Why is the Archivist dragging her feet and not completing the publishing of the ERA?
Seriously, why no action?
One might say her step isn't actually required, but even so, why not just get on with it?
Biden hasn't ordered it?
That's the confusing part of this.

the 'workers rights' poster on the board talked about no discrimination based on gender, religion, race, national origin
& left off any mention of other classes of people
is this a fix?
& supersedes deliberately lax State protections ?
Over on *Twitter there are tons of 28 A experts.
Actual polymaths ... who also equally fluent in epidemiology/ivermectin, phrenology, electoral politics, and climate studies. 🙄
Of course you are perfectly aware of all of this, but I thought it should be stated for anyone who isn't.
It feels like we're back in the Bad Old Days, when I grew up and George Wallace was running for President.
The next 4 years will be fighting not to lose more ground.
I don't think a deadline has been found by the Supreme Court to be unconstitutional yet though. And the 7 year deadline was a part of the original proposal so.. that might invalidate the amendment itself?
I just don't share the opinion that this particular last-minute declaration will hold up.

Cuz, I would be surprised if it was & that wasn’t bigger news!
And what about the Congressional deadlines?

Why did no one use that in court during Roe? Why hasn't the ERA been used to protect birth control, or the other cases that have gone to court since 2020? You'd think the lawyers fighting to protect equal rights would have - but none did.
There is no time limit on amendments in the Constitution, the process is explained.
There are only 2 requirements of Article V to become an amendment:
1) Pass by 2/3rds in each house of Congress. March 22, 1972 ✅
2) Ratified by 3/4ths of states (38). Jan 27th, 2020 in VA ✅

Politics aren't a game, and you're harming real people with this performative "activism" -- laws aren't real because you've convinced people they are, they're real IFF courts follow them.

This does not "make" it the 28th Amendment. (🗣️ it 🗣️already 🗣️has🗣️ been 🗣️since 🗣️2020!).
But, it does help provide notice that the federal government recognizes it as such.
On the other hand, because Biden did this in the scope of his Presidential Powers, it should be beyond court review.
We didn't gain a 28th amendment, we lost the 13th and 14th.

Her boss (the President of the United States) has spoken for his Administration.
That's it. The ERA is in! This is a victory.
(I hope I’m phrasing this question in a way that makes sense!)
amendment has been ratified by 38 states as required. There is no reason for delaying at all.
Biden is not blustering. The amendment needs to be filed. He doesn’t and shouldn’t need to tell them how to do their job.
This seems wishful thinking at best.

Sure. Yes, absolutely.
Does her inaction make it not-part of the Constitution?
No, absolutely not.
The Constitution gives no such power to a random, unelected librarian. Not even close.

I think he timed it perfectly. 😊
Alabama & other states sued and won to stop the ERA. If it reaches the SC to remove equal rights of 50% of 🇺🇸 it’s on 🍊.
As for timing and its level of perfection, we’ll see how it plays out. I doubt there was a reason to delay this long when it was ratified in 2020.
Did they lie to us?
