some (probably paid) hackers attacked the website and caused the service to go down for a while
no one knows if they were actually paid or not though, it's just that no one proficient enough in computers would take down something as important to the internet as https://archive.org
didn't they also say something along the lines of "oh archive supports USA so they support terrorism to we took down the site epic style" on their twitter?
yeah thats why people think it was paid for by someone supporting trump, since the hackers said "the usa supports internet archive financially and the usa also funds israel and whatnot" which,, internet archive isn't funded by the usa, lmfao
at least from what i've heard!!
yeah it's very clearly a shitty excuse. completely forgetting that the us has TWO main gov. archives, the library of congress and NARA, both of which are not IA
not to mention attacking libraries in general is just fucked
I’m reaching out to ask for your support with my GoFundMe campaign. Every donation, no matter the size, can make a big difference and help us reach our goal. Even if you’re unable to contribute, sharing this campaign with your friends and family can spread the word and go a long https://gofund.me/af9bda43

Shame that they're restricting the ability to archive pages for the time being. The only thing holding me back from deleting my twitter completely is that I ant to archive like 5 funny interactions in form other than screenshot. Hope it's back up before the 15th
This not-quite-but-almost feels akin to attacking the children cancer charity! Both perpetrators deserve to burn in whatever the deepest layer of the underworld is
The hacker who said “Archive is supported by the USA” probably doesn’t know the difference between a “.org” site which is for Organizations and a “.gov” site which is for Government supported organizations

Where’s that interview?
