The Beefsteak Mushroom (Fistulina hepatica) looks like a slab of meat! It has a liver-like consistency, and it can be a meat substitute.
It even has a flesh-like feeling to it
It starts pink, then turns red, and finally brown.

However, I believe (!) that these are in the Russula genus. Also called Brittlegills, they make a sound when you snap them!
