How do y'all like, handle criticism? The people that reply on reddit ads have given me some good feedback, but it still just makes me feel so bad. This is basically why I've never done anything artistic before.

art school isn't good for much, but it IS good for getting used to unqualified people giving you deep thoughts on how you should essentially start your large project over from scratch.
trust the word of veteran artists only.
2. Do not look upon your product as your special child deserving of your unconditional love. It's a draft—always a draft—ready to be chopped up if need be.
Criticism from jerks should be dealt with accordingly. They live for reaction, so don’t give them one. Block and move on. Ain’t nobody got time for dat!
Some of it is useful. But some of it yeah that was an artistic choice.
Nobody likes to be wrong or have flaws and it's completely fair to feel bad for it, even if you asked for the criticism.
It's much more likely that the criticism is not wanting to be rude if there's nothing on the message shpwing so
Tho, u can always consider closing them once you feel like you've had enough responses.
Controlling how you feel about criticism might be hard, but you can always make sure you won't be overwhelmed by it either.
Doesn't work all the time but I can occasionally distance myself from "thing that I made".
I love flawed art and weird shitty movies or things that are fun but janky. If I can accept that my favorite writer or director or whoever made something that I can lay into critically and still love, I need to afford my own work that same grace.
I got a bit of hate from a reply supporting a community on Twitter. It hurts, but some people will use your art to vent their frustrations sadly
That's a whole other human being considering a thing I did for no reason other than its what they wanted to do
But someone made a tangible, recorded effort in expressing their thoughts - however childish or dismissive - because I used electricity to make lights flash in front of their eyes. That's magic!
Some will try to shape your game into what *they* want. Others with no dev experience will chime in with nonsense. Some will nitpick irrelevant things. Ignore it all
Technical help, learning processes to meet your goals=GOOD
Be headstrong about what you want your game to be. 💪
When I get feedback even if it's good feedback I also tend to stare at the message while feeling bad until my brain finally manage to separate the game from what I feel
I know it goes against human nature but I really try to weigh positive comments more strongly in my mind than negative ones
And always respond as the best person you can be. =]
But nothing beats that feeling when you've applied their suggestions and see the results! (Sometimes they're wrong, too. 😉)
I try to read the comments/reviews and keep only what can be useful (bug reports, UX improvements, ...), respond as nicely as I can, and then live my life.
Easier said than done, but that's what I try to follow 😅
I don't know if getting used to it makes things easier, will tell you if I ever get to this point lol
We all have a deep emotional connection to our projects, and that's normal, but it makes things complicated x)
It kinda helps if you look at your game as a separated being from yourself and see the criticism directed towards them, while you sit on the side and take notes.
Kinda like being the coach of your game. You later take your notes and help it get better
But is one of the things you get good at the more you practice. And ultimately it helps your baby grow better and you to become a better "parent" with its "future siblings"
So you're hunting for valuable info to improve your creation, while ignoring the jerk parts
Just remember people are stupid jerks and their opinions are stupid, because they're stupid 😂
Personally I just get hurt, sulk, then check it again when I'm numb lol.
I believe in you. And you should too. And if you can't, believe in the me that believes in you ;3 You got this!
Then, you gotta ask if there's any real truth to their criticism, or if it was purely mean for the sake of cruelty.
Afterwards, you have to take what good you can from it, and throw out the rest. Anything you don't need can be tossed
If you show 100 people your stuff, that one guy's critic gets averaged out by the group.
If you make 100 things, the one that's not great hurts less than if it is the only thing you've ever made.
It also helps that your 100th piece will always be better than your first !
They wouldn't bother engaging with you if they thought it was just bad ! Criticism is a form of compliment, too
For the first case, I remind myself that the feedback is intended to improve the final product. It can suck in the moment but overall it's really important.
