Any idea what died on it? I’ve fixed quite a few MacBooks in my time, and it may cost a lot less than you think to repair yourself.

Ummm I think the guy at the Apple Store said it was the logic board? He said it wasn’t repairable, but I guess it maybe just wasn’t repairable officially? It’s completely and utterly dead if that helps the diagnosis :/

Ok. So, when you plug it in, do you have any lights on the MagSafe plug? A green, or red, light?

No light can mean: bad charger, bad power board, battery, or logic board.

Does holding the power for a long time do anything?

The power board (actually called the I/O board) is small and fairly easy to replace. Can be as cheap as $80.

These things are a gamble of course. Could be the logic board which is Apple’s dumb name for the motherboard.

That may be $300 but iFixit will give you $50 back for the old one. Also not truly hard to replace.
