Hmm, I would argue the Framers did plan for the people electing a corrupt President. That's why they set-up checks and balances between the different branches of government.

What they didn't foresee was an entire political party being corrupt, the SCOTUS being corrupt, and a corrupt President.

He’s the most openly corrupt President we’ve ever had, I think. Grant and Harding ran bad administrations full of criminals and Nixon was a criminal himself, but he didn’t take suitcases of money from everyone in sight the way Trump does.
