I think journalists, policymakers and good govt types are struggling to understand DOGE because their mental model is that it is a government reform commission, operating like previous ones. Maybe. But it might be better to start thinking about it as a hostile takeover of the govt by oligarchs.

He is right on that as you do not require a Department of Government Efficiency all that is required that more accountability be written into the many Government departments and those that do contracts for the government.
With accountability comes efficiency of the resources given to them.

Seems like I read somewhere that a president does not have the authority to unilaterally create a whole new branch of government. If that's true, the DOGE is a farce w/no authority to do anything, which I really really hope is the case.

Yeah anyone who thinks DOGE will get any meaningful reforms accomplished is living a pipe dream. At best, they won’t harm good programs too badly. And in all honesty, I’m guessing there will be a ton of infighting and zero will actually be accomplished.

In other words, it will be focused on punishment and has nothing to do with efficiency. Don't blindly follow the Dear Leader (or his Lieutenants)? Guess what, 75% staff reduction.
