One needs to look at the testing and who designs them. I’m so tired of the phrase, “We have to raise the bar”. Fifth graders are expected to write supporting essays when they’ve had no grammar exposure. Memorizing math facts is out, but how are kids supposed to do math problems?

If you want to correlate the outcomes of public education with the political situation we're in right now, it's worth noting that most of the people who voted for Trump graduated 30 to 50 years ago and most of the people who graduated in the last 10 to 20 years voted for Biden.

As a former TN teacher, I can tell you that system is HORRIBLY flawed. Teacher salaries are attached to high-stakes, high-pressure tests conducted in unfamiliar situations, and very little allowance is made for special needs. The tests are extremely skewed to WASP male students. It's awful.

An ignorant populace is easier to fool and easier to rule. Republicans have been working on this plan for 45 years. None of this is new or an accident. If they’re successful in implementing school vouchers nationwide, education will be only for the rich and the poor will have to fend for themselves.
