I can believe there's some out there that passed away and someone else is fraudulently collecting. There was a local case where adult child kept dead parent in a chest freezer and continued to collect her SS. It does happen--but I doubt it's MILLIONS. PS....adult child was caught.

Social security is notified immediately when you die. Your bank will also alert them if they are notified about your death. They do not pay people whose death has been reported.
