When my spouse died I called SS regarding the check received for that month. The rep I spoke with TOLD ME the date of death and that future payments had been stopped. The system was tight and mostly accurate-these greedy ghouls just see a pile of money they want to get their hands on-OUR money.

Old cobol programs defaults birthdates to make some long since deceased or who are off the roles as being 140 years old.
Independent investigators had found social security scams prior and were getting them rectified when fired.
77M receive SS. The scam is in disability payments

COBOL was a common language when Y2K was approaching and it didn’t recognize the year 2000 as an actual date and defaulted to1875. This had to be changed to allow these dates like a birthdate of 03/15/00 which before the update/patch would default to 03/15/75.

Funeral homes report deaths to the SSA. Unless rednecks are burying grandpa in the back yard or leaving grandma in her attic rocker, SSA stops payments and even asks for refunds.
