the plane of the Milky Way, not far from Barnard's Loop, a vast cloud surrounding the rich complex of stars and nebulae in the Belt and Sword of Orion.
LDN 1622, which is probably 1,500 ly away, contains enough dust to completely block the⤵️
visible light emitted by the background stars.
In contrast to the darkness of LDN 1622, the reflection nebula vdB 62 is more easily visible just above and to the right of center.
Within this, intense star formation phenomena take place, radiating it and giving it its bluish color.
