Visit fabulous Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff Arizona where Pluto was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh. Fun Fact: Clyde would hang out at the Black Cat Cafe. Great post, T.O.L.
I love Pluto.
Good job at illustrating a causal fallacy. Republican/MAGA thought processes are rife with faulty logic. It’s glaringly clear none of them ever took a Rhetoric/Logic course. And to think they’re going to be running our country….
Thanks for this clear approach to…well, let me call it logic 😅
I hope it makes as much sense to those who need to be reached as it does to the enlightened.
No matter what post, it can be about a planet, a puppy or a kitten being cute, someone always brings American politics into it. Get a life will ya? Have fun once in a while, it’ll do you good.
It’s sad that you lot are so obsessed with politics, that your every moment is banging on about it and getting angry. You’ll never change shit by crying all the time.
Pluto's taken a lot of shit these past few years. Just saying.
And Hostess Twinkies were first introduced in 1930..and y'all know nothing has been the same since.
Talk amongst your many selves, or with other people.
If you google all the things that were introduced in 1930, the possibilities are endless. Pluto, Twinkies, intensive decades-long research and study in the area of psychiatric and behavorial disorders. Could have been anything.
Personally, I think autism has been around for ages - it's just that in the past, sadly, many were labeled insane & put in institutions. Many deaf youth were institutionalized-or labeled "retarded" - I'm sure autistic individuals were too. Human failure to recognize differences
Yes, of course, it didn't just appear in modern times.
The sarcasm is about the post hoc ergo propter hoc logic fallacy frequently applied to autism for any number of quack theories.
No that can't be true because I have autism and I don't eat Twinkies and never have and I don't buy them for my children or grandchildren and all three of my children and all five of my grandchildren have autism so it can't be Twinkies has to be Pluto🤣🤣
In the 1960's and 70's the number of storks in the Netherlands dropped enormously. In the same decades the birth rate decreased sharply. So, it has been proven: Children are brought by storks!
Well - diagnosed often changed. That’s true for nearly every single diagnose you find in DSM/ICD
So, obv we come from different standpoints in this matter.
And that is the level of rational analysis - “leading” our country. God help us , or Somebody. We have successfully raced to the bottom. Yay for the 49.9 % who made it happen……😱🤯
Good point- but who the heck knows how non voters on the worlds first and possibly greatest democracy / would have voted .. are they that ignorant of what Ben Franklin and his colleagues gave us - a possibility only- and his words “if you can keep it” . Reverberate now more than ever -250 years.
The constant anti establishment, anti democratic drumbeat has eroded the public trust in government. Add corruption to the mix the result is close to 50% of eligible voters don't wish to participate.
There were very few autism diagnosis before 1975. I was teaching sp education at the time so I know this. Why? Cause it really hadn’t emerged as a diagnosis yet. There were plenty of students who would be diagnosed as such today. Science progresses and things change
Let's do some experiments to test the strength of that relationship. It would take 3 years of work with a team of five, with help from advanced computers and tools, and we need £10M.
I remember I was in school when Pluto was dropped as a planet. My teacher did a whole funeral for our Pluto planet hanging in her classroom 😂. It was quite sad actually.
Yes, we're ready for RFK Jr at Health and Human Services. (Rand Paul won't have to jail Dr Fauci - he'll check himself into the sanitorium on his own!)
close but not quite. there was a sensor outpost on pluto which reported the discovery to aliens, which sent sophons to interfere with out brains, causing, yeah, you got it, autism.
Which is ironic because people on the autism spectrum are likely to obsess over Pluto‘s status. I myself can’t stop thinking about how difficult it is to define what a planet is. Ceres was once considered a planet. Same with continents my brain hurts thinking about it. And I must be a little bit
The time correlation is being spuriously used on both sides, but super harmful vaccines do exist, but don’t generally make it all the way to market. I guess elites everywhere got their Christmas miracle.
Let me stuff this pen I have deep inside of you after filling it with questionable materials. You’re right though - it’s the doctors and manufacturers that should be removed, not the vaccines. The vaccines aren’t any worse than an automatic machine gun, and we obviously need those too.
Same could be said about glyphosate, the pesticide in Monsanto's Round Up. The EPA declared it is safe. Just because SOME people who used glyphosate got cancer doesn't mean it caused the cancer. Obviously, the EPA has the scientific research to know it's safe. Correlation does not equal causation.
Anyone else fascinated by the 1st autism diagnosis? Before 1930 autism existed but was unknown to medical science. Then some kid got dragged in front of a doctor who basically went "I have no idea what this is, but this kid is completely off. Let's study him." This spawned a new field of psychiatry.
It's a joke man idk if its ableism, has nothing to do with the abilities of the planet, tbh it's more ableistic of Pluto to be uninhabitable for people with disabilities smh.
I work w a guy who believes earth is flat &planes only need gas to get off ground. Alien ship, way up unseen (I not get details on this part)put tractor beam on plane & guides it over ground. Remember-earth is flat. Once plane gets to destination, alien ship lets it go where plane returns to ground.
Well maybe not - I could see him and Elon cooking up a plot to destroy Pluto, making Elon billions more from govt subsidies under some guise of health.
Exactly! Same with Fibromyalgia, has been known since 1700’s, and named in 1976. I’m sure it’s been around since the beginning, and the same with autism. It drives me crazy these people try to say it and ADHD are connected to vaccines!😡
I could be wrong but didn’t that total 🦇💩🤪 loon Jenny McCarthy start a bunch of quackery by stating unequivocally that vaccines cause autism. She seemed to be yelling it and screaming it from the rafters! And, imho, she’s loony tunes! Not as in the cartoons either.
She didn’t start it. She just believed the bullshit from Andrew Wakefield. She needed something to blame for her son’s autism, instead of genetics, and Wakefield triggered something in the simple minds of her and all the others. Talk about grifting on the desperate.
It’s easy to want to blame something specific on a condition that afflicts your child. I get that, but I’ll be happy when scientists have a clear cause, though I don’t doubt environmental factors, and of course genetic.
I know… several research has been conducted by several respected research scientists and they found no connection and i remember them testifying on hill, but Noooo the crazy 🤪 don’t believe the scientists
In other words, near vision goes to shit when you get older because you didn’t die from vaccine-preventable diseases as a kid. Also, hair starts to go grey. Thank you, vaccines!

By their standards...
Then, if you call them out on it, they run around like their hair is on fire and you were caught with a lit match in your hand.
(Obviously joking because loving Pluto isn't unique to autistics, or encompassing of all autistics)
I love Pluto.
If a tree fell on trump in the forest,
Would anyone hear the world
Dancing for joy?
😂😂😎

OMG!!??! Was Neil trying to tell us something why he cancelled Pluto?!?!

Is that how it works? 😆

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the prevalence of autism among U.S. children has risen significantly in recent years."

That could very well be the reason.

The sarcasm is about the post hoc ergo propter hoc logic fallacy frequently applied to autism for any number of quack theories.
Autism used to be a word to describe the withdrawal into self that schizophrenia patients experienced at the time.
So, the first official diagnosis was, in fact, 1943.
Leodescribed it to be a separate disorder from Schizophrenia, often related it to children.
So, obv we come from different standpoints in this matter.
(sorry, that's the first thing that comes up in my mind when I see the date 1911)
It’s a fact.

Fuck it really must suck having a smooth brain.

It's like confirmed COVID cases in 2020: if you do less testing, you get less cases
-the Nepalis probably
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Funny thing is, I never got chickenpox as a kid, and got vaccinated for it a couple years ago because I’ve heard it can be brutal in adults.
I guess I should’ve ended that last comment with a /s, but I thought the emojis would suffice.
or maybe this is more of a psych 101 concept of 'correlstion doesn't equal causation'
It is an example of "coincidence doesn't equal causation", NOT "correlation doesn't equal causation".
Correlation does imply causation.
The implication strength is proportional to the tightness of correlation.
This has been the basis for longstanding empirical studies.
