What services do people use for bulk email sending? More interested in sending emails to a database of existing users than a mailing list (eg mailchimp wouldn’t be a good fit as we’re not looking for them to own the user data)

If you're asking specifically about email delivery, we send non-transactional email with Postmark (via a messaging stream) and we're pretty happy with it.

They handle delivery and optional read tracking etc.
They don’t own the user data in that we don’t give them a mailing list but they obviously know who they sent emails to
