Well and the fact-based universe has a little trouble with the use of the word "genocide" to describe "Iran's puppet militia slaughters 1,400 civilians in order to provoke a war, so they get war."
Being anti-genocide is neither left nor right. While it's true that specific ForPol questions don't move votes en-masse, Biden posed a different problem to voters: "Do you want lots of wars, and do you think more wars & genocide is good? Our ForPol establishment does!" Voters said no.
The thing is that the people who cancelled weren't actually reading the WaPo, that's why they cancelled, so they had no idea what it was writing about the ICC. The backlash happened because of reporting in *other* outlets about what was going on behind the scenes at WaPo.
Everything Matt disagrees with is apparently "leftist foreign policy" these days. Glad to see that Matt remains deeply deeply unserious even over here on Bluesky
I honestly don't understand 'purity' in this context.Israel is deliberately starving Gazans to death.Much of the Israeli public believes the rape of Palestinian prisoners should not be prosecuted.I believe a politics that accepts that is psychopathic whether it considers itself left/rightorwhatever
Numerous scholars of genocide are calling this a genocide. The ICC have ruled that Israel has deliberately withheld food and aid from Gaza. The Israeli army are sniping children for sport. That's bad and calling it out is not purity politics. It's basic humanity
But what you don't understand is that my moral worldview is objectively correct, and I am perfect at understanding the world, and so when I consider something beyond the pale it's not purity testing, it is merely being morally appropriate.
I’m glad it doesn’t have much support but does any coherent foreign policy school of thought have broad support? I think people hop around based on discreet events. If we had another 9/11 neocon style world policing would be popular again, for example. We are just in a moment that’s defining debate
Biden admin's liberal, "rights based" approach would have been pretty popular if they didn't cock up Afghanistan, which is more of a tactical failure than an ideological one, imo.
The aspect no one seems to point out is that a lot of the leftist attacks should have happened during primaries. That way by the time you get to the general election it's been worked out and the candidate can pivot to center.
This is because rightwing corporate media which you are a part of has manufactured consent in such a way that the average dumb ass American voter who watches the news doesn't know that Israel is increasingly become a worldwide PARIAH! And now with the ICC issuing arrest warrants for your boy...
I genuinely have no idea what 'leftism' even means in foreign policy in 2024. Is it leftist for Democratic House members to overwhelmingly support a ban on Tiktok?
There was a movement from the left in the last election cycle called “Uncommitted” that pushed to withhold votes from Biden on account of his continued arms sales to Israel. As Israel is still broadly supported by most Dem voters, this was an unsuccessful minority “leftist” foreign policy view
The dishonesty on the far left is so frustrating. They’d rather believe that most Americans are fine with genocide than accept that most Americans don’t think what’s happening in Gaza is genocide.
Dishonesty and sophistry to maximise their power in the only way they know how, by policing and manipulating language to make them seem right even though everyone else can see the core of their point is nonsense.
Supporting the liberal world order is Leftist now, Matthew? Gee I wonder how we could have lost when every DNC consultant and Biden/Harris orbiter was passing around your shit like gospel

Still, the vast majority of the population are not "liberals", so this is misleading.
In reality, the political fallout from cutting Israel off could easily be the death of the Democrats.
