Workers have invested in training for themselves in order to be a relevant part of the knowledge economy.

AI is going to wipe that out.

Agree the evidence base is still developing but have for the last year been worried about employment loss. My town of 100k ppl has about 4k call centre jobs. Open AI voice chat is already v good at understanding my (non-american) regional English accent. Those jobs seems v vulnerable to AI & soon

The script for your average call centre is super basic & is more a funnel than a service. Mixed with self-service options to filter people out that 4k looks a lot more like 1.5k. It's death by attrition for these jobs & my local economy would struggle to support that number of job seekers

Are there some real examples of the current batch of AI replacing a human done job at higher quality? Because I don't think this is the case. That's not to say that some people haven't tried it, but the customer experience has universally been negative and they will roll it back or lose customers.

I'm of conflicting views here -

1) If you do knowledge work, it's good to at least know what's out there
2) Enterprise tools themselves often suck shit (MS Copilot)
3) This admin is not going to do anything regarding policy
4) I think Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Dario Amodei et. al are lying about costs

Why, in fact, is it a good idea to use your one resource - the ability to help political planning - on this topic, right now? If you have creative ideas on how to resist Trump, share them; if not, highlight what is worth supporting. Everything else is counterproductive. Think of it as wartime.
