The Latinx stuff is overdone, but he makes a solid point about other terms like “social equity.” It’s a completely meaningless term outside academic and non-profit circles. People just want to make money, save a little bit, go to Ensenada for a weekend trip, and grill on the weekends. Not hard!

I read that humor is a Venn diagram where "benign" and "violation" overlap. I can joke my brother is "moron" but if you say it we'll have a fight.

The progs I know are quite forgiving when the "good heart" is clear. They want dialogue.

It is a real problem for older people who are not professional intellectuals that they worry about accidentally using terms that were acceptable thirty or forty years ago but have now gone out of date. I am 64 and this is definitely a thing.

Dropping the vowel or using -e (as some do in Spain) makes much more sense if you have to go there at all.

The funny thing about LatinX is that it actually originated in the academic Latino community trying to use more inclusive language, not with white people. It just not only doesn’t translate well with working class Latinos, but white ppl took it as the way to describe all Latinos.
