A fun thing about how the ABS appeal test is currently constructed is that the ABS zone being technically different from the rulebook zone means the ump could get something right and still have it overturned

But also, it feels like the umps get the final say on whether it's overturned. They could say "touching the strike zone does not make it a strike, that's still a ball"
The tinkering with the zone dimensions has been a fairly under-reported part of this whole experiment. I'd guess the full-time use of ABS will also come with a change in how the zone is defined in the rule book - until then, I can understand why teams would "opt out" of this for spring training.
