I mute the volume on my phone while I am in public just in case I accidentally hit something that plays any noise, my best friend on the other hand will just start scrolling through tiktok with the volume almost at max.

Nothing makes me more uniquely homicidal than people who play loud music/TikToks in public. It fr activates my inner angry chimpanzee, I get the sudden urge to start face gnawing... use headphones or turn your volume down. Collective self-awareness is disappearing by the day I swear to god.

I agree! Me and my family go on hikes a lot, and people play loud music. Sure, it scares the bears away, but nobody wants to listen to the crappy music that is blasting from their speakers! It's not hard to use headphones or yell "Hey bear!" every few minutes.

I would think it's okay if it's at a low enough volume to where it won't protruding to another table or activity that is close to them, or just simply ask if it is okay. Communication is a wonderful tool.

Personally I think it’s a little different in an outdoor space. If you’re having a party and there’s music that’s fine imo. If you have a small Bluetooth speaker and you’re just chillin with a few people and the volume is mindful/demure that’s fine too.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect silence in all public spaces. Music is culture and culture takes place outside. But god damnit don’t play music in enclosed spaces where that isn’t the point (trains, planes, cons, etc)

We do sometimes play music at our table, BUT we always make sure its family friendly music and get the ok from everyone within 2 tables of us. If even 1 says no then we dont. Respect goes a LONG way

I agree with that too. One of my favourite songs from Into The Woods is “No One is Alone”, and it says “you move just a finger, say the slightest word, something’s bound to linger”. None of us are alone and need to be respectful of the others around us

Blasting a speaker at your table is ruuuude. We go to cons as musicians, so sometimes we'll play a couple live songs at the table as long as our neighbors are cool with it (and it won't block traffic). Pre-COVID we had a "listening station" with headphones and old iPods we cleaned between uses.

While I don't do large scale cons like comiccons, I occasionally play music at my table. It's always quiet enough that you only hear it if you're right up at my table. I've seen other vendors play stuff loud enough that it can be heard across the vendors hall and it's kinda overwhelming sometimes 😭
